Cleveland Veterinary Clinic is a state of the art full-service companion animal hospital in South Elgin, IL located just northwest of the intersection of McLean Boulevard and Spring Street. The professional, knowledgeable and friendly team at Cleveland Veterinary Clinic aims to treat your pet with gentleness and loving compassion by focusing on the human-animal bond. We provide the latest in medical, dental, surgical techniques, and veterinary services in South Elgin and the surrounding communities.   • Jennifer Maloney, DVM & Hospital Owner
    Veterinarian and Hospital Owner

    As a child, Dr. Jennifer Maloney knew she wanted to become a veterinarian. She has always had a special bond with and love for all animals. She attended the University of Illinois where she earned both her undergraduate degree and her doctorate in veterinary medicine. Dr. Maloney feels fortunate to have become the owner of the Cleveland Veterinary Clinic in March of 2012. What she finds most rewarding about her career are the close relationships she forms with her clients and patients. As well as general practice, Dr. Maloney has additional interests in abdominal ultrasound, laser, orthopedic and advanced soft tissue surgery. 

    Dr. Maloney lives with her 3 dogs (Sophie, Peanut & Pierre). In her spare time she enjoys spending time outdoors, bird photography reading and traveling abroad.

  • Margaret Dougherty, DVM
    Veterinarian

    Dr. Margaret Dougherty joins the CVC family in April 2017 and we can't be more excited. We are convinced that she will add another layer of success to our amazing hospital.

    Dr. Margaret has worked in the veterinary field for a long time spending the last 21 years at a small animal practice. We are lucky she reached out to us and wanted to join our team. She has great experience in both soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries.

    Dr. Margaret’s demeanor is straight forward and she values client and patient care. She forms bonds with her peers and loves to collaborate regarding cases. Dr Margaret has adjusted very easily into our culture.

    Dr. Margaret has one adult son and an adorable Grand daughter, she loves to talk about. At home with her husband they keep busy with 2 dogs, 3 cats, and a bearded lizard. She has a strong interest in surgery, internal medicine, and developing long-term relationships with her clients and patients.

  • Maegan Masterton, DVM
    Veterinarian

    Dr. Masterton grew up in the Chicago suburb of Carol Stream. She graduated with her bachelor's degree in Animal Science from Iowa State University and received her doctorate degree at University of Illinois. From a young age she always felt the calling to become a veterinarian due to her love of all creatures and her desire to help them. Dr. Masterton recently became a boy mom giving her dog Bates a brother and someone important to protect! Her passion for traveling may change a bit, as it is hard to leave that bundle of joy. Other than everything Harry Potter or Football season, Dr Masterton's passion shines with her special interest in surgery, primary care, and emergency medicine. She is the only one performing Echocardiograms in our clinic.

  • Danielle Hughes, DVM
    Veterinarian

    Dr. Danielle Hughes grew up in Schaumburg, Illinois. She received her BS at UIUC. And then attended the  University of Missouri where she received her DVM. Dr. Hughes loves to travel and enjoys outdoor activities, like hiking and going to the beach. One of her past times is her love for cooking and trying new recipes.  When Dr Hughes isn't at Cleveland, you can find her listeniing to music, enjoying a good pizza and hanging with her two best friends Ikua a golden retriever and Kaika a shepherd and goldendoodle mix. Dr. Hughes is committed to providing compassionate care and continuously strives to make a positive impact on the lives of the animals and families she serves.

  • Brian Gustaevel, DVM
    Veterinarian

    Dr. Gus was born and raised in Northeast Ohio, where he studied at the University of Findlay for his undergraduate education. He then attended veterinary school at Ohio State University in 1994, where he received his DVM. Dr. Gus practiced in Central Ohio until 2020, when he moved to the Chicagoland area. He now lives in St. Charles with his pet birds and aquatics. In his free time he enjoys playing video games, working with his 3D printer, crafting, and painting. Dr. Gus has a fondness for soft tissue surgery, is fear free certified, and has previously served as Chief of Staff and as a Medical Director. CVC is delighted to welcome Dr. Gus as of February 2026, and know he will make a valuable addition to our dynamic team.

    Hospital Greeter

    Hi!

     My name is Kramer and you have most likely seen or heard me at the hospital. I love to greet everyone and can be quite a singer... As cute as I am, I do not really like to be handled by people I do not know so I may get feisty at times!

  • Tomi Saunders
    Hospital Director

    Tomi joined the Cleveland team at the beginning of October 2023. She has several years experience in business operations and management. Her most recent position as Multi-Site Manager of 3 area veterinary hospitals has given her great resources and insight for growth and development here at CVC.  we are excited to add Tomi to the team. 

    Tomi lives in Aurora with her adult daughter and 4 yr old grandson.  She loves spending time with her 2 year old Rottie and a 4 year old Yorkie. in her spare time she enjoys hairdressing and rides with her Fiancé on his Harley.

  • Janice L
    Veterinary Technician Manager

    Janice joined the CVC technician team in 2020, but had been in the veterinary field since 2018. She has had a love for animals since she was very young, she slowly started volunteering at shelters when she was able and fell in love even more.  She started working as a technician and never looked back!  Janice's passion for surgery, and desire to learn new things is what makes her a perfect fit for our team.

     

    When Janice is not working she enjoys spending time with her dogs Karl, Olive, Randall and her cat Mila, either outside or snuggling up relaxing on the sofa.  She also loves traveling and seeing new places along with her fiancé. 

  • Erin N
    Veterinary Assistant

    Erin became a part of the Cleveland Veterinary Clinic nursing team in June of 2007. She remembers that her strong connection with animals began in early childhood. It is that connection or drive that compelled her to choose veterinary nursing as her vocation. Erin is intrigued by the process of diagnosing and treating pets. She especially enjoys forming long-term relationships with clients and their pets and finds client education very satisfying.

    Erin shares her home with her husband, Barry and her children. She has three brother cats, Wasabi, Tobiko and Mouse, that she rescued when they were only two days old and a French Bulldog named Ernie. When not at the clinic, Erin enjoys spending time with her animals and the people she cares about most. She also enjoys trying different ethnic foods and restaurants and knitting or crocheting gifts for friends and family.

  • Nicole R.
    Veterinary Assistant

    Nicole joined the CVC family as a technician in 2022.  She has been in the veterinary field for over 5 years. Nicole has had a love of animals since she was young and always knew she wanted to work with animals. Nicole is very passionate about client education and has a soft spot for our large breed dogs, especially German Shepards.

    In her spare time Nicole loves reading, traveling and spending time with her family.

  • Michelle
    Kennel Technician

    Michelle joined our animal care team as a kennel technician in 2019. Her love for animals has always been constant but when she started working for a zoo in 2011, it sealed the deal. Caring for animals is her dream job.  Her vast experience working with zoos and local shelters make her a great asset to us here at CVC. 

    In her spare time you can find her sewing and doing embroidery on special items for birthdays and weddings or drinking her favorite iced coffee. Michelle is also involved with local shelters and volunteers her time visiting the cats and dogs.

  • Geri B
    CSR

    Geri joined the team here at CVC in 2017. She came to us with 20 years knowledge and experience. Her genuine love for pets, compassion and understanding make her a great addition to the reception team. Helping pets live long happy lives is something Geri strives for daily.

    When she's not smiling up front, you can find Geri crafting away. Her favorite past times are paper crafting, sewing, rubber stamping, craft painting and interior decorating. She also loves spending time with her husband of 31 years and their fur babies. Geri is also passionate about fostering for rescue organizations, Papillon rescue and Papillon Haven in particular. She loves the outstanding care the provide for orphaned dogs.

  • Cindy
    Accounting

    Cindy Kay brought her bookkeeping expertise to the Cleveland Veterinary Clinic in March of 2005. Although only at the clinic on a part-time basis, Cindy has made herself indispensable by tackling all areas of the clinic’s finances with efficiency and accuracy.

    Cindy makes her home in Elgin with her husband, Curt, and their daughter, Taylor. Her dogs Cubbie, Koda, a Ragdoll named Buddy, a hermit crab named Spots, a bunny named Snowball, and an aquarium of freshwater fish round out their family.

    Cindy enjoys traveling with her family to destinations in both Wisconsin and Florida, where they fish, swim and spend time outdoors. In addition, she supports Taylor in her aspirations as an ice skater, both in individual and team shows and competitions.
